Travel, Exploration & Active Journeys

Traveling and exploration is about the experience, sharing it, and telling the story, inspiring others to live the life they always dreamed of. Build the community that helps you grow and extraplate the best you.
One once said: "A live worth living, is worth recording." Well here are the recordings, dreams, destinations, and experiences.

"For me, to travel is to explore the world at human speed. Rather than rushing between crowded tourist landmarks on a bus, my preference is road trips with a balanced rhythm of walking, biking, hiking, and public transportation. It is about the experience—feeling the cool morning air, rolling along tree-shaded greenways, and using Google Gemini to plan flexible adventures that follow genuine curiosity."

Because travel is about personal discovery (The Experience), I plan trips with rather than booking guided bus tours. Using Google's AI as a thinking partner lets me design flexible days—uncovering quiet trails, finding local bakeries, and exploring at our own pace without rigid tour schedules.

This philosophy also shapes how I move once I arrive in a new region. Instead of remaining trapped in a car, exploration becomes a balanced, rhythm: walking to discover historic alleys and morning cafes, biking along protected corridors, hiking nature reserves and bluffs, and riding local trains and trams to observe the daily pulse of community life.

The 4 Pillars of How I Travel

Here is the foundation of my travel philosophy—built on independence, active exploration, and intelligent planning:

1. Road Trips Over Planes (Freedom on the Open Road)

Autonomy

Road trips preserve the connection between you and the earth. You feel the gradual change in elevation, notice the shifts from farmland to forest, and carry everything you need—bicycles, hiking poles, books, and regional maps. If a rainstorm sweeps through or you discover an intriguing national monument on the map, you simply turn the wheel and explore. You never have to deal with lost luggage or cancelled flights.

2. Active Multi-Modal Balance: Walk, Bike, Hike & Ride Public Transit

Movement

Once settled at a destination, the car stays parked. Getting the true flavor of a region requires a harmonious blend of movement styles:

🚶‍♂️ Walking: For quiet morning espresso runs, exploring cobblestone alleys, reading historic plaques, and wandering open-air markets.
🚲 Biking: For covering 15 to 30 miles along river streamways, canal towpaths, and protected urban bike superhighways without vehicle traffic.
🥾 Hiking: For climbing ridge bluffs, walking through nature reserves, and discovering quiet forest overlooks.
🚆 Public Transit: Riding local trams, commuter trains, and light rail to experience the authentic daily pulse of resident life.

3. Personal Planning With Google Gemini Over Guided Tours (Curated Independence)

Google AI Co-Pilot

What is Google Gemini in this context? Google Gemini ↗ is Google's advanced artificial intelligence (AI). Think of it like having an extraordinarily knowledgeable personal researcher, local historian, and bike trail scout in your pocket. Instead of paying for a rigid commercial bus tour where you have to follow a tour guide waving a flag on a stick, wait in line with fifty strangers, and eat at predetermined tourist traps, I sit down with Google Gemini to research and design custom road trips tailored to our exact pace.

How I use Google Gemini for road trips and trail exploration:
  • Scouting Quiet Trails & Greenways: I ask Gemini to scan maps and discover continuous paved trails, streamway corridors, and tree-shaded loops far away from car exhaust.
  • Route & Elevation Analysis: Checking topographic hill grades, trailhead parking with bicycle repair stations, and safe crossings under busy roads.
  • Finding Hidden Local Gems: Scouting independent bakeries, farmstands, historical markers, and quiet river bluffs that never appear in generic tourist brochures.
  • Instant Weather & Route Flexibility: If an afternoon storm rolls in, I can ask Gemini in seconds to find an indoor local history museum, a great neighborhood coffee shop, or a scenic alternate drive.

4. Human Speed & Non-Linear Wandering (It's About the Experience)

Presence

Just like tending a digital garden, real travel is . When you travel at 12 miles per hour on a bicycle or 3 miles per hour on foot, you smell the wild prairie grass, hear turtles sliding into the stream, and can strike up spontaneous conversations with local riders. The goal is never to rush through an itinerary; the journey itself is the reward.

🚲 Biking & Greenways Everyday Transit to Leisure

Biking: From Belgian Transportation to Overland Park Trails

My personal relationship with cycling reflects this journey: growing up in Belgium, I rode a bicycle purely for daily transportation instead of driving a car—it was simply how you got to school, ran errands, and moved around town. Today, riding the paved of Overland Park and Kansas City, biking has become a pure leisure experience: an open invitation to slow down, clear my head, feel the breeze, and explore nature for the sheer joy of it.

Overland Park & Kansas City Regional Trails

Johnson County and the Kansas City metro are home to more than 100 miles of multi-use paved trails. From the shaded banks of Indian Creek Trail in Overland Park to the forest valleys of Mill Creek Streamway and Tomahawk Creek, cyclists can ride for miles across entire cities without ever stopping at a red traffic light.

Everyday Transit Over Cars (Belgium)

In Belgium, hopping on a bicycle was as natural as putting on your shoes. You didn't think of it as "exercise" or an "outdoor expedition"—it was just reliable, car-free transportation that connected you to the neighborhood, rain or shine. That upbringing built an enduring comfort with moving through communities on two wheels.

A Pure Leisure Experience (Overland Park)

Today in Kansas City, biking plays a completely different and welcome role: relaxation and leisure. Rolling under the tall oak trees along the Indian Creek and Tomahawk Creek trails ↗ is how I step away from screens, watch wildlife by the water, and recharge the mind at human speed.

The "Knooppunten" Node System

Belgium's Limburg province also changed how the world maps bike routes by inventing the network in 1995. Instead of getting lost on car roads, cyclists follow simple numbered signposts from one intersection to another—a brilliant design for both daily transit and leisure wandering.
